The Advanced Technology (AT) Airborne Spectrum Dominance (ASD) Advanced RF portfolio Chief Engineer position has the responsibility of ensuring the technical integrity and successful execution of pursuits, programs, and internal investment. This position provides the single engineering execution point of contact for the Airborne Spectrum Dominance Sub-Strategic Business Unit Chief Engineer, the Advanced RF portfolio senior program director, and external customers. Additionally, the portfolio chief engineer manages an organization of program Chief Engineers assigned to each program within the portfolio.
What You Will Do:
- Ensure technical/engineering integrity of all aspects of the Advanced RF portfolio.
- Provide technical leadership and direction, resolve technical challenges by ensuring robust design processes are followed, ensure the engineering staff is available and capable of executing to established cost, schedule, and technical requirements.
- Work closely with the ASD Chief Engineer, Program Directors, Engineering leadership, and customers to ensure technical baselines are managed through the program lifecycle and engineering resources are planned and applied to the programs
- Support to the business through new business creation and successful execution of contracts to meet the portfolio’s current and future Annual Operating Plan requirements for bookings, sales, cash, and profit.
- Engineering approval authority for Advanced RF portfolio EACs and business Gates
- Provide and coordinate the strategic vision and direction for improvements of engineering activities required to achieve success within the portfolio.
- Effectively lead teams of technical experts to resolve challenging technical problems
- Partner with the Technology Director to establish and execute internal investment strategies
- This role will oversee a geographically distributed team located in Goleta, CA, El Segundo, CA, McKinney, TX, Arlington, VA, and Atlanta, GA. Travel is required (on average 1 trip a month) to both internal sites, customer offices, and suppliers.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 14 years of engineering experience.
- Defense industrial base experience
- Leadership experience with technical engineers and scientists.
- Experience developing complex RF systems.
- Experience in program management activities including experience with EVMS.
- Experience with new business creation including leadership of cost volumes and technical volumes of compliant, winning proposals
- Experience with developing and presenting technical briefings to customers and internal company leadership
- Active and transferrable final U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain program access after start. US citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience in Electronic Warfare desired
- Leadership and/or line engineering management experience.
- Digital Engineering/MBSE/Agile experience
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage geographically diverse development teams

The salary range for this role is 188,000 USD - 378,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
